Besides the rich history, the Voortrekker Monument is also a place of relaxation. It is the ideal place to come and have a picnic, braai, jog, walk and cycle.

Here, joggers, walkers and cyclists are not only guaranteed a great workout, but also breathtaking views within our safe, fenced nature reserve.

Facilities such as Stokkiesdraai, the FAK Meander with Songs and Blinkvosperd lapa, are also available for hire to spend a relaxing day around the braai with friends and family at the foot of the impressive monument!


Die Voortrekkermonument currently has:

  • Two dirt road walking routes – a 5 km route, which is ideal for the whole family and walkers of all ages, and also a 6 km route, which is a much more challenging route.

  • Four tarmac walking routes – a 2 km, 5 km, 10 km and 15 km route.

  • Five mountain bike routes of 5 km each – Each route has its own character and challenges. Our mountain bike trails are of excellent, international quality and are maintained weekly with passion and pride by our maintenance staff.

We offer various package options for every jogging, walking and cycling enthusiast who wants to come and take on our respective routes on a more regular basis.

Parkrun has returned to the Voortrekker Monument!

Bring the whole family and come and enjoy a refreshing morning jog, Saturday mornings between 08:00 and 10:00. No registration or parking fees are payable for participation in Parkrun! Click here for more information.

Various fun runs, races and mountain bike time trials are also hosted throughout the year on our beautiful grounds.

Come and visit one of the Voortrekker Monument’s two restaurants, Uitspan and Skool op Wiele, for delicious snacks, quickly prepared, light meals, and something to quench your thirst.

Sarel Kuiken Play School, located next to Skool op Wiele, also offers an exciting playground for the little ones with a jungle gym, kick bikes and other toys. After a finger-licking delicious meal at Skool op Wiele, you can challenge each other in one of the exciting board games that are also available!
