Large
Amphitheatre Roof

It was decided to improve the large amphi-theatre at the Voortrekker Monument in 2005 as especially the seating, had become dangerous and damaged. The stage (4 000 square metres) was covered with shade netting and the antique and collectors market is one of the events that takes place here regularly. The netting is 80% water proof and the facility can be used for exhibitions of large items such as cars, small music concerts and informal get-togethers.

Large
Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre was built for the inauguration of the Voortrekker Monument on 16 December 1949. Located on the North-eastern side of the Monument, it is designed to house 20 000 people (seated) and 10 000 standing.

The Amphitheatre is ideal for big concerts and it has been improved to accommodate various events, such as functions, concerts and large church services.

The stage was covered with a continuous asphalt layer during March 2001, as the original covering was damaged and leaking. The Amphitheatre Hall has also been expanded to accommodate 1 000 guests and all the restrooms have recently been upgraded. Bookings to use The Amphitheatre for several different functions such as concerts, large church services and “Boeremusiek” competitions have already been received.

Manschappen

This area was originally used as sleeping quarters for privates of the ZAR who occupied the fort until June 1900 when the fort was occupied by the British Forces.

Several paintings and busts of prominent persons during the Anglo-Boer War [1899 – 1902] and later, are displayed here. The collection is on loan from the SA Army College in Pretoria.

Manschappen is currently utilised as a conference facility and can be hired by outside companies.

White boards, projector screens and flip charts are available on request. Coffee, tea, snacks and lunches are also available.
