Pretoria, 11 July 2018. September is heritage month. As a result, no less two different heritage festivals will take place on the Voortrekker Monument Heritage site. The Monument’s own annual Heritage Day festival, will take place on 24 September at the picnic site.
This will be a family day full of interesting activities and cultural demonstrations. We will be baking bread in a traditional oven, roasting coffee, making candles, making butter and plaiting whips. The ‘Trekboervereniging’ will host a typical Voortrekker exhibition with jawbone wagons and pioneering goods, as well as demonstrations of forging and shooting with muzzle loading rifles. There will be all kinds of knick-knacks and handmade items, food stalls, live entertainment and homemade food. The final programme will be advertised closer to the time.
The entrance fee to this festival will be R30 per car. Enquiries concerning the festival may be directed to Thea Furstenburg, email@example.com or Etta Judson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A heritage and tourism festival, the first of its kind, will be presented by a private company from 14-16 September hiring facilities on both the VTM and Freedom Park sites. It aims to create a symbiotic relationship between the tourism industry and heritage sites and in doing so, conserve the beautiful heritage sites in Tshwane by involving communities in a sustainable manner.
A wide variety of family activities will take place and the organisers hope to make this an annual event. Tickets for this event can be obtained on Computicket.
