Pretoria, 24 April 2019. An unexpected kidnapping will take place at the Voortrekker Monument’s annual Military & History Fair on Wednesday, 1 May. Luckily, our sponsors Group73, will be on hand to foil the attempt.

The arena program will start at 10:00 with a performance by the Pretoria SAPS band. Thereafter, a short demonstration showcasing the abilities of the mounted soldiers utilized in the Border War, takes place. The helicopter display will start at 12:00. Susanna will be fired at 13:00 at the large amphitheatre. She is a 6 pound British gunade ship’s cannon ca. 1820. The fact that she is nearly 200 years old has had no influence on her growl. The Cannon Society of South Africa currently sponsors the shots fired by Susanna on the first Friday of every month.

Old stalwarts, the NRCC, MCRS and the Dundee Diehards (all of them re-enactors of different wars), will be present with interesting exhibitions and weapons representing wars from the Great Trek to the current Afghanistan.

Quite a few books will be for sale, while writers such as Johan Raath, Deon Lambrect, Roelf Schoeman and Eeben Barlow will be at the Fair to sign their books. Traders will be selling militaria, books, medals, uniforms and beautiful scale models of Ratels, Caspirs and aeroplanes.

The Fair is from 09:00 to 15:00 and will take place on the roof of the large amphitheatre with the arena program on the oval of the picnic site. Visitors should please note that the braai area may not be utilized during the fair.

There will be food stalls and a dedicated coffee/tea area with seating for the thirsty as well as a bar in the restaurant below the Fair. The entrance fee is R40 per car, regardless of the number of occupants. Tickets can also be purchased in advance from iTickets.
