Pretoria, 2 September, 2019. The Voortrekker Monument and the City of Tshwane will be hosting an exhibition on the art of JH Pierneef at Gallery 20:20 at the Voortrekker Monument from 6 September until 8 October 2019. The exhibition consists of a key selection of artworks from the collection of the Pretoria Art Museum and it will open with an introduction by Michael Bernardi.
Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 – 1957) was one of South Africa’s most prominent artists whose geometric style revolutionized art in South Africa at that time. Artworks from his time in Pretoria will form the core of this exhibition. During the 50 years of his career as a painter he undertook an endless quest of always experimenting in an effort to reach the authentic soul of the South African landscape from the inside and expressing it in his own colours and lines with sincerity.
The exhibition takes place in partnership with the fourth GauFestival, a dynamic international and local community project, which was launched in 2016 in Tshwane. The festival will take place at twelve top Tshwane venues, which means that patrons will have a selection of entertainment of outstanding quality across the whole city. The festival commences on 20 September and lasts until 6 October 2019. Further information on the festival is available at: www.gaufestival.com / 012 460 6033.
The exhibition may be viewed from Monday to Friday from 08:20 to 15:00. The entrance fee to the exhibition is R15-00 per vehicle. If you intend visiting the Monument as well, the normal entrance fees apply.
